    Description

A strip of Civil War era matches or "Lucifers" with the original tissue paper wrapping.
These matches were issued by the U.S. Government and sold by camp sutlers.
Matches were sold in strips, and several of these strips were wrapped in tissue paper and sold as a package.  This package only has one of the strips remaining.
Matches were made of one piece of wood, cut/split into individual matches that could be broken off as needed by the soldier.  One end is tapered and coated with red material for striking.
The matches are 2½ inches high.  The original tissue paper is faded and is torn.
Perfect for your soldier's camp display!
