Description
This large serving tray from Los Castillo is a beautifully crafted example of handwrought mixed metals intarsia in a mid century modernist abstract design. The main body is wrought from cleverly jointed heavy gauge sheet copper, brass, nickel and aluminum and clearly shows the hammer work of the smith who crafted the piece in the 1950s or 60s.Great size, it measures 17 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches in a round cornered rectangular format, the underside shows the same design as the front and it is in excellent condition for its age. The reverse is hallmarked - Los Castillo, Taxco, Handwrought, Metales CASTILLO, Hecho en Mexico and design #95. Metales Castillo is a Los Castillo mark used on mixed metal pieces, not to be confused with the "Metales Casados" (married metals) mark used by generic makers. A beautiful example of mid-century modernist Taxco handmade metalwork.
