Many pristine spurs never saw action. Being dug on the battlefield, this spur actually took part in the Civil War. I'm not an expert on Civil War spurs but I believe this is a typical pattern. I think it's called a gutter back style. The dug brass spur was recovered on the Bull Run battlefield. It's impossible to say whether it is from 1st Bull Run or 2nd Bull Run. The rowel is long gone. A nice relic from a major battlefield.
