    Description

Here's a very early Black glass (dark olive green) Utility bottle... that probably contained ale, rum, or some other libationary spirit.  This one, as well as the other long-neck pontilled Black-glass bottle, was found off the coast of Florida prior to the 1970s.  It was obtained in St. Augustine in the early 1970s.  These bottles are so old that they invoke images of early sailing ships, and pirates.
This one is a quart size, a Three Piece Mold, and sports a sticky-ball pontil, with a good amount of jagged glass around one half of the base.  I'm guessing this example is from the early 1800s, and judging by the base and type of pontil, appears to be American blown. Bottle is completely covered in whittle, the kind you can feel in your hand,no matter how you're holding the bottle.  Also has some bubbles here and there.  If you really like bubbly bottles, make sure you also check out my other Black-glass utility.  It's frothy, foamy, bubble-bath of a bottle !
    8 7/8" tall
