Description
Scarce original Civil War Era Bayonet candle holder,This very scarce, seldom offered ORIGINAL Civil War Era Field Candle Holder is from the estate of a long time collector of original Civil war era military items. It is designed to fit in the socket of a rifle musket bayonet that could then be stuck in the ground. This soldered two-piece holder is forged from brass. The flared top with beaded rim has a diameter of 2-3/8 inches that prevents melting wax from dripping into the bayonet and f the bottom – it is tapered in order to accommodate different bayonet socket diameters. These were originally sold by Sutlers in the field. There are
no markings on it but is listed in Lord’s Civil war Collector’s Encyclopedia, Volume III on page 70.The brass has a natural patina finish from years of storage and I did not want to polish it. The discolored lower portion of the holder was caused by being nested together with other holders for storage. It is in original, unused condition with no dings, bends, cracks or other damage. You will be happy with this addition to your collection.
NO RESERVE
NOTE: this sale is for the candle holder only and does NOT
include the bayonet and candle that are pictured with it.
Shipment will be made within 24 hours of payment.
